Lost Productivity Calculator
Robert Troyer, CEO, OurTech Solutions™

Calculate how slow network performance costs your business.

Most business leaders don’t fully appreciate the financial impact to their business caused by poorly configured network operating systems, lack of regimented network maintenance, and unknown virus infections on their network environments. Network slowdowns, even as little as five minutes a day across an entire corporate network environment, can add up to significant costs in terms of employee salary loss and the potential for lost revenue days over the course of a year’s time. For example, just five minutes of day of slow network performance can result in 4.7 business days of lost productivity. To help business leaders understand the true costs of poorly performing networks we have created a financial impact calculator that calculates the potential financial impact of slow network performance. To measure the financial impact on your company simply plug in your gross annual revenue number, annual cost of salaries, and number of employees in the (Shaded RED) fields, and you will see using your own numbers just how significantly your business could be financially impacted by lost productivity.

In determining the real financial impact on the business of a poorly performing network one needs to consider not only the direct cost of lost wages, but the potential for lost revenues as well. As a Managed Network Service Provider, we are constantly challenged to demonstrate how our services save companies money. What most companies fail to understand is that we not only save them money on direct support costs, but we can help them make money by not only managing network productivity, but also employee productivity. OurTech Solutions' approach to technology service goes beyond the purely technical aspects of network management; we are a true business solutions provider. We understand that technology alone won’t help grow a company’s business without the means to measure employee productivity as well as to help to manage employee productivity.

OurTech not only helps companies significantly increase network operating performance but we also help increase employee productivity. By simply controlling or limiting internet access site we can in most cases increase a company’s employee productivity by as much as an hour per day. That’s equivalent to 12.5% of an employee’s average work day, which leads to the conclusion that the average company is overstaffed by 12.5%. How many employers don’t want to add 12.5% back to their bottom line revenue numbers? Tired to walking around the office and see employees on My Space, YouTube,  and just about every other non business related company website? A simple means to control employee productivity is through policy development and web traffic monitoring and filtering software.

So that potential clients understand the state of their network health, OurTech offers a free network assessment service. Our network assessment report includes a list of all of your network assets including: servers, workstations, firewalls & switches, along with security patch status, virus discoveries, disk drive concerns, server environmental assessment, software licensing audit, recommendations for improving overall network performance, and much more. In most cases, we are able to help companies increase network and employee performance by anywhere from a half hour to an hour per day.

Understanding in a meaningful way how a poorly performing network can significantly impact your bottom line is critical to maintaining and growing a company’s business. It’s important to understand what the true financial impact technology has on your business. Is it helping you grow the bottom line or limiting what you make on the bottom line?

Malicious Apps Found in Google's Android Online Store

Robert Troyer, CEO, OurTech Solutions™

While many businesses leaders and sales professionals are taking advantage of new and improving communication technologies to stay “connected” with their customers, most are not staying abreast of the dangers these new technologies pose to identify theft and information security.

Rogue applications developed to steal banking credentials from users were discovered late last month in Google's Android Market online software store. Oregon based First Tech Credit Union, posted a fraud alert about one new threat on Dec. 22. Malicious programs disguised as a legitimate mobile banking apps downloaded from Google’s online store was designed to steal users' online banking credentials. The malicious app was developed by a user with the alias Driod09, according to First Tech Credit Union. While this application has since been removed from Google, users who may have downloaded an app from Droid09 are advised to immediately remove it and bring their phone to their mobile provider to ensure the program has been fully removed.

Google launched the Android cell phone operating system in September of 2009. According to a Google representative, "The Android Market is open to all Android application developers. Once registered, developers have complete control over when and how they make their applications available to users."

While Google applications on Android Market that identify themselves with third-parties [such as banks] without permission are not allowed, users are cautioned to do some research on the applications they install from this or any other site.

Certainly there are great advantages to staying connected and in touch with clients and prospects but these new cell phone technologies are much less secure then desktop and laptop operating systems. While you might be in awe of all the cool new applications that can be installed on your new cell phones, caution is the word of the day from “Your IT Department”!
